Focus On Reading---Avant Elementary implemented a 90-minute Block Reading Program during the 2008-09 school year focusing on the five essential components of effective reading instruction to improve Reading scores on the OCCT.  The 90-minute Block Reading Program will continue during the 2009-10 school year. Additionally, primary grade students are evaluated with DIBELS to determine reading skills and students reading below grade level are targeted for improvement with individualized reading strategies. Emphasis on OCCT Test Scores---Teachers set goals and identified strategies to better teach PASS Skills to address a District-wide goal to improve OCCT test scores.  Professional development time and activities have been directed to this goal.
